Snoke: The Shadowy Figure Behind the Rise of the Sith Lords

You know that feeling when you watch a movie, and there’s this one mysterious dude lurking in the shadows, pulling all the strings? Yeah, that’s Snoke. Big, creepy, scary, and totally impossible to ignore — he’s like the Darth Vader behind Darth Vader (if that makes sense). I mean, who really was this guy? And how did he become the dark puppet master behind the rise of the Sith Lords?

Well, buckle up, because I learned the hard way that Snoke isn’t just some spooky villain — he’s a whole mood.

Who the heck is Snoke anyway?

When I first saw Snoke pop up in The Force Awakens (2015), I was like, “Who invited this freak to the party?” The dude’s face looks like he fell out of a horror movie and into a bad skincare commercial. Pale, scarred, and tall enough to intimidate even the grumpiest of Wookies.

    • Tall enough to hit his head on ceilings
    • Face with more scars than my high school breakup diary
    • Speaks like he swallowed a bucket of gravel and never washed it down

Seriously though, Snoke’s voice and vibe scream “dark side boss” but the guy’s background? Total mystery box. No one knew where he came from, which was maddening.

My buddy once joked, “He looks like someone forgot to plug in his soul.” Fair.

Origins: Sith Lord? Frankenstein’s Monster? Who Knows?

Okay, so here’s where things get messy. Everyone wants to pin down Snoke like a butterfly in a collector’s case, but nah — he’s slippery.

    • Some fans say he’s ancient Sith royalty—like an heir to some dusty throne no one talks about.
    • Others swear he’s just a puppet, cooked up by Palpatine to do the dirty work. (That one actually checks out.)
    • And then there’s the wild theory that Snoke is a whole new kind of dark side freak—something fresh and scary.

I remember reading a weird Reddit thread at 3 a.m. where someone claimed Snoke’s scars were actually ancient Sith tattoos gone horribly wrong. Hella spooky, but who knows if that’s legit?

How Snoke pushed the Sith back into the spotlight

Look, even if Snoke wasn’t a Sith Lord by strict textbook standards, he sure as hell played the villain like one. He’s like that one guy at the party who convinces everyone to do stupid stuff — except here, it’s galaxy domination.

    What Snoke actually did:

    • Took Kylo Ren under his wing (and twisted that kid like a pretzel)
    • Brought together the First Order, which is basically the Empire’s creepy little sibling
    • Spread chaos like confetti at a birthday party nobody wanted

My neighbor Tina swears her kale patch cured her Zoom fatigue—and she’s not wrong—but Snoke? He was the dark force behind Kylo Ren’s bad decisions. It’s like the ultimate toxic mentor story. I’ve had bosses like that — not nearly as powerful, but almost as annoying.

Snoke’s Powers: Jedi mind tricks and more

Here’s the deal: Snoke isn’t just some scary old dude yelling at people. The guy’s got some serious Force chops.

    • Telekinesis on steroids — he can move stuff with his mind (yeah, I tried this at home, and all I got was a headache).
    • Mind control that’s basically Jedi hypnosis but way creepier.
    • And then there’s his ability to project himself across the galaxy — like a spooky hologram but with way more menace.

Fun fact: Victorians believed talking to ferns prevented madness. I talk to my begonias just in case. Snoke? He probably talks to shadows.

Snoke and Kylo Ren: The messed-up mentorship

If you think about it, Kylo Ren wouldn’t be half the villain without Snoke. That twisted relationship? Wild.

    • Snoke flipped Ben Solo (Kylo’s real name) from promising Jedi to dark side nightmare.
    • Trained him in all the worst habits — emotional manipulation, power obsession, the works.
    • And don’t forget the mind games — like when your coach tells you “you can do it,” but then roots for the other team.

I tried mentoring a plant once. It died. Kylo had better luck.

Snoke’s unexpected end — because life’s never simple

Alright, here’s the kicker: Snoke gets offed way faster than anyone expected. I mean, the guy’s scary and all, but in The Last Jedi — boom. Kylo Ren slaughters him in cold blood.

    • Snoke thought he had Kylo wrapped around his finger — nope.
    • Kylo wanted the throne, and he wasn’t gonna wait.
    • The First Order gets a major shake-up because of this.

Sorta like when you finally get a boss you hate to quit — except with laser swords.

    The weird legacy of Snoke

Even though Snoke dies, his shadow looms large. His teachings and chaos didn’t just disappear.

    • Kylo Ren runs the show now, but he’s still haunted by Snoke’s lessons.
    • The First Order keeps pushing, all because of Snoke’s groundwork.
    • Among fans? Snoke’s the big bad mystery no one can stop talking about.

I swear, the smell of Walmart’s parking lot rosemary on June 7th, 2019 still haunts me — kinda like Snoke’s vibe haunts the sequel trilogy.

Snoke vs. classic Sith Lords — apples and dark apples

Snoke is… different. Not your grandpa’s Sith Lord.

What’s Different? Snoke Classic Sith Lords
Origin Puppet made by Palpatine? Self-made or Sith lineage
Philosophy Manipulate and control Rule of Two, pure Sith rules
Power Style Mind games, projection Physical Force combat
Legacy Mysterious, abrupt Long-lasting Sith traditions

    Their/there mix-ups? Guilty as charged.

Why Snoke actually matters (and not just for Star Wars geeks)

    • He’s the symbol of darkness coming back like an unwelcome ex.
    • Bridges the original trilogy and the new saga.
    • His backstory adds a twist — not your usual villain origin story.
    • Shapes Kylo Ren’s whole vibe.
    • Turns the First Order from a joke into a legit threat.

Anyway, here’s the kicker. Snoke’s story is the perfect mix of mystery, menace, and madness. A reminder that in Star Wars — just like in life — sometimes the biggest threats come from behind the scenes.
